The Meaning Behind Ooosha

"My father was my food hero as a child; he introduced my brother and me to the most amazing things, from the extraordinary and classic chocolate souffle, to the simple and traditional eggplant parmesan. He would only ever take us to the best of the best places to eat, not necessarily the most expensive or most fine dining, rather to places where the food was created with the utmost passion and integrity. This respect for great food made simply and with high quality ingredients has stuck with me throughout my life and so, when I was brainstorming business names, it seemed only fitting that I came up with a word which encapsulated my childhood experiences with food and a general joy of life.

My father has a knack for coming up with nicknames for all of his friends, family and colleagues - this was no different when it came to his kids and a few of their body parts which he liked to pinch, squeeze and tickle. One of these, was our inner thighs, which he named Ooosha. He would squeeze our inner thigh, saying, loudly, Ooosha! We would squirm and laugh, as children do. For obvious reasons, this word has always brought to mind a childish innocence and joy for life. It evokes all the feelings for me that I want to convey through my food and my teaching; love, patience, joy and reckless abandon!"  -Amy Levin
